Although bikram yoga dvds are available online and on the market, it would be probably be best for you to experience bikram yoga being part of series of classes. Why? Simply because there are aspects of the yoga that are difficult to replicate in your home; like for example, the heat. Aside from that there are twenty-six poses that a student needs to learn, under the tutelage of a bikram yoga expert, corrections can be made immediately. If you have difficulty performing a certain pose, your teacher can help guide your body in the right position. While it is undeniable that bikram yoga can be learned from a DVD, being enrolled in class and having a teacher will make sure that you can fully reap the benefits of bikram yoga.
The Dress Code
When you have decided to be part of bikram class, it is important you are fully prepared for the day’s session. First things first, you need to have a set of bikram yoga clothes. What are these exactly? Bikram yoga clothes are simply clothes you can perform bikram yoga in. This means, women should wear tank tops and shorts. Women should also wear bras that are able to provide the support and coverage when doing poses that are done upside down. Women should try to avoid shirts with sleeves, since the sleeves can get in the way in certain poses.
There is no big difference for men’s bikram yoga clothes, the essentials are still the same: a tank top and a pair of shorts (although men can opt not to wear a top). The main objective here is to wear clothes that will not inhibit movement but still provide the enough coverage to prevent embarrassing situations. A practitioner needs to focus on doing the correct positions, and small distractions that can be avoided must be avoided. You don’t want to be adjusting your clothes while doing a pose.
Aside from the clothes, you should bring your own water bottle. You will be doing a physically demanding routine in a very warm room. Save yourself from fainting in the middle of the session because of dehydration. Obviously, you need to replenish the water you are losing because of sweating. Plus, water will also help in the removal of body toxins. And since you will be sweating continuously, bringing a small towel will also be helpful. If sweat gets into your eyes, simply use your towel and you can continue with your bikram yoga experience.
